Thomas Tuchel recently encouraged Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave the club in the summer. According to Tuchel, Arrizabalaga is a great goalkeeper and he deserves more game time, something which he cannot assure the 28 year old at Chelsea. He further revealed that Arrizabalaga is not happy with the situation at the club and he sympathizes with him but he cannot really do much to change the situation.
“Kepa is great player and he deserves more game time. He has been very disciplined especially after losing his position to Edouard but that is football. Not all things go our way. I really like him and want him to get the minutes but I cannot guarantee that at the club. It’s a shame cause my hands are tied.”
Chelsea might have a chance at signing Ousmane Dembele in the summer after Xavi hinted at the player’s possible departure. Xavi mentioned how highly he rates the Frenchman but the economic situation at the club is making things very difficult for the club to keep him. The Spaniard manager further said that he would want to keep Dembele at the club and he hopes that the player will accept whatever little the club offers to him in the new contract.
“Dembele is a good player and I know he will make the best decision in his new deal. I don’t want to insinuate that the best decision will be to stay but I hope that is what he thinks. The club has been stronger with him around and I hope that will continue to be the case. However, our financial situation is difficult at the moment and we can’t promise anything extravagant for him.”
Edouard Mendy has been superb this season, particularly during the start of the season when he led the backline perfectly well. In both the FA and League Cup finals, he was outstanding to say the least and that emphasizes just how highly regarded he is by fans and neutrals alike. Hopefully next season he will maintain the same spirit and form.
