Kenyan top striker Michael Olunga has been on the rise especially after joining his first Asian football from Europe.Olunga who started his Asian football career with Japanese J1 league club Kashiwa Reysol has been ranked as the best forward in Asia by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Olunga was ranked ahead of Brazilian duo of Leandro Damiao (Frontale FC) and Gustavo (Jeonbuk) who garnered 8.7 and 7.9 points respectively.Japanese duo of Kei Chinen (Frontale FC) and Ryogo Yamasaki (Grampus) who both garnered 7.9 points.
In Japan, Olunga became the first African player to win the J1 league Most Valuable Player award after his great performance with Kashiwa Reysol in the 2020/21 season which too assuared him of a golden boot award.
