Opinion; Cristiano Ronaldo Deserves A Three Match Ban For His Tackle On Liverpool's Curtis Jones

Manchester United, under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjr, were recently surprised by Liverpool at Old Trafford, winning 5-0. It was impossible for the Red Devils, who have been in a mixed run of form, to keep up with the lightning-quick Liverpool attackers, who tormented the opposition's back line and scored five goals.

While Naby Keita and Diogo Jota each scored a goal in the Old Trafford game, Mohamed Salah capped it off with a hat-trick to become only the second player in history to score a hat-trick against the Red Devils at Old Trafford, following Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo de Lima in 2003.

The Egyptian winger has now scored in 10 consecutive games for Liverpool, and it is hoped that he will be able to extend his goal-scoring run across all competitions over the remainder of the season. Mohamed Salah also became the first player in the history of the Premier League to score a hat-trick against the Red Devils at Old Trafford, with sloppy defending from Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof providing an opportunity for the visitors to score.

Manchester United's 5-0 loss to Liverpool was tied with Cristiano Ronaldo's greatest setback of his career, with the 5-0 loss to Barcelona in the El Clasico capping off the list of the Portuguese star's worst defeats.

His second half goal was overturned by VAR, and the game finished in a 5-0 victory for the former Real Madrid star.

The game's most memorable moment occurred in the second half, when Cristiano Ronaldo became enraged by a dribble by Liverpool's Curtis Jones and subsequently kicked the Englishman to the ground in frustration.

While his teammates raced to his side to assist him in his match against Cristiano Ronaldo, the 20-year-old midfielder appeared to be in discomfort.

Virgil Van Dijk personally confronted Cristiano Ronaldo during the brief scuffle that took place, as both parties appeared to be prepared to draw swords against each other. While Cristiano Ronaldo was issued a yellow card for his tackle on Robin van Persie, it needed the intervention of the referee and the rest of the squad to separate them.

While Paul Pogba received a straight red card for his tackle on Naby Keita, Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to have been protected by the referee, as the Portuguese star received only a yellow card rather than a straight red for a deliberate tackle that had the potential to harm the youngster.

Considering his unsportsmanlike behavior, I believe the Portuguese star should be suspended for three or four matches at the very least.

Sergio Ramos (now at Paris Saint-Germain), Luis Suarez (Atletico Madrid), Antoine Griezmann (now at Paris Saint-Germain), and even Achraf Hakimi (also at Paris Saint-Germain) have all received red cards for gentler challenges in recent seasons.

The fact that Cristiano Ronaldo avoided a red card should compel the Football Association to hand him a suspension for a few games in order to instill discipline in all Premier League players and encourage them to behave in a sportsmanlike manner when they are defeated.

Hopefully, the Football Association will do the right thing and ban Cristiano Ronaldo for a few games in order to act as a deterrence to other players.

I'm curious as to what you think about this article. Do you believe Cristiano Ronaldo should be punished with a three-match suspension for his tackle on Curtis Jones? Please leave a remark and share your thoughts in the section below.
