Arsenal: Injury Update on Tomiyasu, Ramsdale‘s Majestic Save, Lacazette’s Role

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal fans are worried once more about Takehiro Tomiyasu’s fitness and it seems that the Japanese defender might miss the clash against Spurs on Wednesday after he limped off against West Ham United yesternight. He asked to be subbed off in the 79th minute of the game after he was carelessly tackled by Andrews Fredericks in a 50/50 challenge and from the look on Arteta’s face, things seem to be bad for the Japanese. Luckily, Arsenal have Cedric Soares who has proven to be dependable defensively and offensively as well because he has a great crossing accuracy and curl.

It is not quite clear whether Tomiyasu has a serious injury because the medical team is still running some tests on him. Arsenal fans have their fingers crossed hoping that only good news will come from the medical report that will be released today.

Aaron Ramsdale

It is quite sad that Ramsdale has failed to keep a cleansheet in the last 6 matches but the level of some of his saves is just top bar. In yesterday’s match, he pulled up a brilliant save against West Ham to deny Declan Rice a leveler in the second half. The save was quite instinctive because going by the velocity the ball came at Ramsdale, no keeper would consciously manage to save it no matter how skilled he is.

Mikel Arteta was very happy about Ramsdale’s perfomance and said that such saves is what makes goalkeepers match winners in some occasions. “Ramsdale did a commendable job between the sticks and I am happy he kept us in the game following West Ham’s corner. I’ve always told him that he should always strive to be the main difference maker and today he did just that. I am very pleased with his perfomance as you can see from my smile.”

Alexander Lacazette

It seems that Mikel Arteta is planning on excluding Alexander Lacazette from his plans for the remainder of the season and that means that Arsenal are no longer contemplating extending the Frenchman’s contract. In yesterday’s match he did not feature despite Nketiah’s show of fatigue in the latter stages of the match. Lacazette is clearly no longer a part of the starting eleven.
