The Government of Uganda through its president His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has said that Ugandan sports men and women who won gold medals for Uganda at a continental level, Commonwealth Olympic games will be paid a monthly salary of Shs. 5million and a car for each.
The president has further stated that silver medalists in any of the three categories will each earn Shs. 3million per month together with a car. Bronze medalists will also earn Shs. 1million per month and a car for each.
The announcement by President Museveni is in honor of an order he made in 2013 but went unfulfilled and instead paid quarterly, something that he has faulted the government officials in charge. On top of the monthly salaries and cars for each of the medalists, the president has promised to build houses for their parents.
"And because I'm now a happy man because of the medals, I will give each of the medalists a car. I will build for their parents a house each.", Said president Museveni.
