The Blues suffered the second defeat against Pep Guardiola for the second time in a row in less than a week. They first lost to the Cityzens last Thursday in the EPL competition after Mahrez came off the bench to score the winning goal. In today's match, they were humiliated at Etihad in the FA Cup competition.
In today's match, Mahrez opened the scoring once again in the 23rd minute to give Man City tye lead with a stunning freekick. Julian Alvarez added the second one in the 29th minute from a penalty spot.
In the 38th minute Phil Foden added the third to give his side a solid lead before half time. In the second half, Chelsea made some changes including in their formation but they didn't find a way to break Manchester City solid defence.
City added the fourth goal in the 85th minute to seal the win and grant his side the ticket to the next round. In that match one of the City player who impressed is Mahrez. The Algerian forward gave Chelsea defenders no rest with his great skills.
In their last match, he scored the winning goal after coming from the bench. Today, he started the match and managed to score twice and created a few more chances. Mahrez top perfomance has proved he is still one of the key player for Pep Guardiola despite starting from the bench in several matches.
Next weekend, Manchester City will be travelling to old Trafford to face Manchester United. Mahrez top perfomance in the recent matches against the Blues has proved he might be a big threat to Manchester United defence if he'll start in that matches.
