Japan saw off Spain 2-1 at Khalifa International Stadium to claim 3 vital points in the World Cup. Spain opened the scores through Atletico Madrid forward Alvaro Morata who was assisted by Chelsea star Cezar Azipilicueta in the 11th minute to seal a 1-0 lead at halftime. Japan were ruthless in the second half where they scored the equaliser in the 48th minute through Doan before Tanaka scored the winner in the 51st minute to seal a vital 2-1 victory. Following the 2-1 win Japan topped Group E table with 7 points while Spain are 2nd with 4 points. Japan will play Croatia in the World Cup Round of 16 while Spain takes on Morocco.
Germany thrashed Costa Rica 4-2 at Al Bayt Stadium to claim all the 3 points and first World Cup victory this tournament. Germany goals were scored by Havertz (brace), fulkbug and Gnabry while Costa Rica goals were scored by Tejeda and Vargas as both teams were eliminated in the Group Stage.
