Chelsea has made one January signing to bolster their current squad. Tuchel wants to make moves for more quality players to ensure his team regains the title race track. However, January window has not been easy to do business. They have already signed a left back to act as a cover for injured Ben Chilwell who's out for a season.
Marina Granovskaia wants to sanction a move for a midfielder to solve injury problems facing his side. One of the key areas he wants to strengthen is the defensive midfield position which has had a conundrum in recent weeks following back to back N'golo Kanté injuries. Declan Rice and Aurelien Tchoumeni are considered his long term replacement but the deals seem quite difficult to go over the line.
According to Football Insider via FootballLondon Chelsea chiefs have identified Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez as a potential cheaper replacement for Kanté. Alvarez joined Ajax in 2019 from South America and since he has established himself as an integral part of Erik Ten Haag's side. The Dutch club is ready to sell the versatile star for only £18m a cheaper option to the preferred two. Chelsea will get competition from Crystal Palace and Newcastle but they will try to complete his move before deadline day.
