Erik Ten Hag has confessed that he has been on Martial’s case a little more than the other players in trainings this season. The 49 year old explained that he only wants the best for French attacker and believes that the only way to unlock his full potential is by pushing him to his limits. Martial is expected to takeover Ronaldo’s role in the starting eleven who terminated his contract with the club less than a month ago.
“I have been a bit tougher on him than the other players. I only want the best for him and the only way he can do this is by coming out of his comfort zone. He knows that, I hope. I have no personal vendetta with him. Infact I trust that he will reach his full strength by the time I am done with him,” said Ten Hag regarding his relationship with Martial.

Anthony Martial has 8 goal contributions since the beginning of the year and that is beyond poor for a player of his caliber. To fill in the shoes of Ronaldo- who had a record of 25+ goal involvements last season- Martial has more than stepping up to do this season. He has to show to the manager that he can live up to the expectations if he wants to stay at the club.

My opinion
Anthony Martial has a lot to fight for and also some people to fight against. Jadon Sancho has not been on peak form in the last couple of months but Rashford has been the mirror opposite of his form. Rashford has shown that he can perform exceptionally well in the center forward role which Martial is also vying to dominate once the League resumes.

Anthony Martial is a very talented attacker and Manchester United still have a lot that they could get from the 28 year old. Martial is motivated about playing for the club and owes his loyalty to Ten Hag who has been very supportive towards him. If given the chance, I believe he can exceed the expectations set for him.
