Arsenal: Competition With City Intensifies- How Arteta Could Outwit Guardiola

Following the quick start to the new season, fans are claiming that the league title could potentially wedge between Arsenal and Manchester City. Both clubs are on top of the Premier League table after 7 games played, but unlike the other clubs that are closely trailing them, both clubs have shown more hunger in winning games. Pep Guardiola is of course the favorite owing to his decent record in the past five years at the club, but Arsenal fans are optimistic that Arteta could reverse the fate this season to Arsenal’s favor.

William Saliba, Granit Xhaka and Gabriel Jesus were recently included in Gameweek 8’s Team Of the Week, whereas Joao Cancelo, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland represented Manchester City in the same squad. The outlook alone shows that each side has strived to improve on defense, midfield and attack this season and that is probably the main source of their supreme dominance in the early phases of the new season.

I wouldn’t say that based on the recent Team of the Week draft that Arsenal and Manchester City are on the same level, but Arsenal deserve a honorable mention. The Gunners’ have come a long way for the last two years and the little Mikel Arteta learned from Pep a few years ago, seems to be working at Arsenal. With just a little more ambition and drive, I think that Arsenal could finish above Manchester City this season.

Toppling Tottenham is a start…

Luckily for Arsenal, this year Arteta will not have to face Manchester City following the postponement of the fixture to create room for a clash against PSV for the Europa League. Arsenal can now focus on beating the other clubs in the league and try to forge a gap between them and Manchester City. Spurs are next for Arsenal, and winning in that fixture will ease off the pressure for Arteta and his side.

Not many managers have succeeded in downing Pep Guardiola but Arteta stands a good chance at putting up a brave fight. Klopp has managed to overcome Manchester City’s aggressiveness a number of times by playing a 4-3-3 formation. With how Arsenal are playing, and with the quality of players they’ve got, the chances of toppling City this season has increased tenfold.
