UEFA Champions League

History in Chelsea’s Champions League Triumph

Chelsea have won the 2021 Champions League Title after beating their Premier League counter parts Manchester City 1-0 at the Estadio Do Dragao. Consequently, a number of players went down in history today.

With Edouard Mendy in goal for Chelsea, he became the first African goalkeeper to play as well as winning the UEFA Champions League final. Furthermore, Chelsea’s number one kept 10 clean sheets in 12 games, conceding just twice. Consequently, he is the Champions League 2021 golden glove winner.

Besides, Christian Pulisic is the first American man to play in a Champions League final. The American star came on as a substitute in the second half in the 66th minute. Kai Harvetz, the match winner, scored his first ever Champions League goal. The German playmaker found the back of the net a few minutes before half time. The win saw the London club secure the title for the second time, having won it 2012. Contrarily, the Premier League Champions reached the Champions League final for the first time and are yet to win one.

Elsewhere, Sergio Aguero made his last appearance for Manchester City ahead of his departure from the club, Barcelona being the likely destination.
