Kenya U23 team failed to book a slot in the CECAFA U23 finals in Ethiopia after losing the semi-finals to Burundi 4-2 in post-match penalties following a barren draw in the regular 90 minutes of the encounter against.
Kenya came to the game as the better team on paper after eliminating Djibouti and South Sudan but failed to replicate that in the field of play as they were considered one of the favourites to win the tournament.
on the other hand, Burundi had beaten Eritrea in their opening game before being held by hosts Ethiopia to a 1-1 draw in their last group game.
Vincent Wasambo and David Odhiambo were to miss their Kicks with Burundi converting all their chances in the post match penalties as Burundi converted all their spot kicks to book a date with Tanzania in the finals after fighting hard to hold Kenya in a goalless draw in the normal time.
The result sets up Kenya against South Sudan once more in the third-place playoff as Burundi will test the waters against Tanzania in the finals.
