Celebrations as Senegal qualify for the round of sixteen

With a do or due situation at hand, fingers were crossed on the African champions Senegal as they were taking Ecuador at the last group matches for group A. Ecuador had four points coming to the match while Senegal had three and needed all the three points to qualify for the round of 16. The Ecuadorians were much comfortable in the game until the Lions of Teranga took the lead at the closing moments of the first half. Imaila Sarr was the man who produced the magical goal which he converted at the penalty kick. With the Dutch side making sure the hosts Qatar don't get a point, Senegal were up for a tough fight in the second half to keep their lead and keep the hopes of qualifying for the next round. Things got spicy at the early seventy minutes of the game as Caecedo of Ecuador put them back to the game with a goal that was impossible to defend. Just a minute later the Senegalese captain for the game Kalidou Koulibaly capitalized to put back Senegal to the lead. Senegal became frenzy with Dia having a power shot towards the goal but unfortunately not on target. With all hopes directed into qualifying for the next round, anxiety was building up for Senegal just to hold on and keep the lead. Eduardo Mendy made a quality save from a corner to keep the Senegalese hopes alive. At the end, Koulibaly's performance at the game became the determinant as Senegal beat Ecuador to become the first African team ri qualify for the round of sixteen.

Congratulations Senegal, congratulations Africa.
