Arsenal are closing in on an agreement to land Sporting Lisbon wonderkid Tiago Tomas in the summer transfer window.
Tomas who has played for Portugal u18 caught the attention of Edu and Mikel Arteta while the pair watched over sporting's recent clash with the Primeira Liga rivals Benfica, who gunners will face in the Europa League round of 32 this month.
Tomas broke into Sporting's first team last season and has established himself as a regular player under Ruben Amorim's side scoring four goals in all competitions.
Arsenal technical director Edu was so impressed that Sporting's director of football Hugo Viana was approached shortly after the game to discuss the deal.
Talks have reached an advanced stage and sporting are considering a cut-price fee of 20million euros for Tomas' signature, despite an eye-watering, 52 million euros release clause being inserted into the new contract signed June 2020.
The Portuguese leaders have been hit hard financially by corona pandemic and Tomas' sale will help balance the book. Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke might be willing to release the money to strengthen the squad for next season.
Tom has been tipped for future stardom in Portugal for some time and has shone at international level with u17 and u19 side.
The teenage forward made three substitute appearance in the league last season before being handed his full sporting debut in the side goalless draw with Vitoria Setubal.
