Chelsea were handed an early blow in their final match of the season against Aston Villa as Traore scored just before half time to leave Chelsea potentially out of the Champions League spot.
That half time defeat would lead Thomas Tuchel rushing to the dressing room for a big talk but when he emerged back, the manager would make an interesting change that for a moment has left Chelsea fans surprised.
Eduardo Mendy did not return for the second half as Kepa Arrizabalaga came to finish the rest of the game.

The reason for taking off Mendy was still unclear but speaking at half time to Sky Sports, Micah Richards revealed that the Chelsea number 1 had suffered an injury when trying to save Traore's goal.
With the Champions League final just a week away, Tuchel could not afford to take any further risks with his keeper and thus decided to take a pre-cautionary move and get him off early on.

Mendy now joins N'Golo Kante in the doubt list for the final in a game which seems they must win to play in the Champions League next season.
