Sofapaka Football Club can confirm the signing of Benard Muiruri Gichuki.
Benard was among three players namely Chrispine Wambua and Khalid Deco who emerged best in the second edition of Governor Granton Samboja cup held in 2020. Benard’s side Taveta Sisal were crowned champions in the last edition.
Muiruri joins the club on a four year contract after a successful trials.
Now this is a strategy of community involvement and attraction of the local fanbase. Sofapaka plays her home matches at the Wundanyi Stadium in Taita Taveta County. The club has a partnership with the county government and part of the deal was to help in nurturing talents in that area. They've roped in three youngsters for a start. Maybe that's the quota. The locals will attend Batoto Ba Mungu's home matches to support their "own" as they feel part of the team now more than before. This strategy is vital as the three youngsters act as the face of the team/community. They will pull crowds to support them. They are more of ambassodors of the club to the community. This is what Tusker FC ought to have done when they were using Kinoru Stadium in Meru because a huge fanbase was already building. Involve the community and make them feel part of the franchise.
