Yesterday the Premier League announced the winner of the Young Player of the Season as Phil Foden. While it is true that Foden was a great player this season, many have disagreed that he deserved the award over Bukayo Saka. Going by stats alone, Bukayo Saka has 7 more goal involvements than Phil Foden not to mention that Saka’s overall influence on the pitch is only bettered by Mohammed Salah this season. Others have even said that even if Saka were not to win the award, Trent Alexander Arnold would have been the better choice.
Bukayo Saka has nonetheless congratulated Phil Foden for his award this season and promised him that next season he will give him a run for his money. Saka also thanked the Premier League for considering him for the award
Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Barcelona’s striker Memphis Depay. The Dutchman has been a vital player for Barcelona in the last one year but with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski in the summer, there is a high chance that he might be sidelined next season. Arsenal on the other hand are looking for the perfect striker to replace Alexander Lacazette in the number 9 role since he is bound to leave the club in the summer. Lacazette has already been informed that his contract will not be extended and that he will have to look for a new club in the summer.
Memphis Depay still has two more years in his contract with Barcelona but with so many center forwards to compete with for a place in the starting eleven, the pressure of seeking greener pastures is definitely sinking in. For the sake of Arteta, I hope that he agrees to negotiate with Arsenal.
Takehiro Tomiyasu has recently proven to be injury prone and that is a big concern for Arteta. Like Tierney, Arteta will have to ensure that Tomiyasu engages in less strenuous exercises so as to preserve his fitness. As for Cedric, this will be good news since he will be playing more game time next season.
