Former Porto And Sporting Lisbon Couch To Join This National Team.

The Nigerian Football Federation has reached an agreement with former Porto and Sporting Lisbon coach Jose Peseiro to take over the national team.

The 62-year-old joins Nigeria after the team's former coach resigned in August and was eliminated from the World Cup qualifiers by Ghana with the team in charge of the technical director.

One of Peseiro's current tests is to qualify Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations finals where they will play Sierra Leone on June 9 before taking on Mauritius four days later in Group A.

He has not yet signed a contract with Nigeria but it has been reported that before May 28, the Portuguese coach will be ready to serve the Super Eagles.

Gernot Rohr, Nigeria's last foreign manager, left as the country's longest-serving manager after taking over in August 2016 and leading the team to the 2018 World Cup and a third-place finish at the 2019 Nations Cup.

However, some Super Eagles supporters and the highly critical local media have been critical of his successor's appointment as manager.

To win over Nigeria's demanding fans, Peseiro will have to outperform his predecessor.
