Good News To Chelsea And Liverpool Fans Ahead Of AFCON 2021

The 2021 African Cup Of Nations was lifted to January 2022 and when the competition starts, it will affect the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Chelsea are set to lose Eduardo Mendy and Hakim Ziyech to Senegal and Morocco respectively. Man City will be without Algerian Riyad Mahrez while Liverpool are likely to lose Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, Nabi Keita and Joel Matip.

According to The Athletic, FIFA rule states that: "Players must be released and start traveling to their teams not later than one week to the start of the competitions".

This means that December 27 is the date when players and nations are expected to meet prior to the first match which will take place on January 9.

However, good news have emerged for Chelsea and Liverpool as there is a clause which states that the release of players can be delayed if agreed upon by all nations and clubs involved.

"Clubs and associations concerned may agree a longer period to release players". This is a caveat in FIFA rules that clubs may mean on.

If it is agreed, then it will mean that Mendy, Ziyech, Mane, Salah, Matip and Keita will be available for Chelsea vs Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on January 2.
