Cristiano Ronaldo was chosen for Portugal's 26-man roster ensuring that he will participate in a record tying sixth World Cup.
The 37-year-old has played sparingly for Manchester United this season, but he is expected to start as Portugal attempts to capture its first World Cup.
Only three other athletes have participated in five World Cups: Lothar Matthaus of Germany, Rafael Marquez and Antonio Carbajal of Mexico.
Ronaldo might set a record by scoring at five different World Cups. Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, teammates at Manchester United, are also on the team with him.
Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, and Bernardo Silva, three members of Manchester City, are the other forward alternatives for Portugal, along with Andre Silva of RB Leipzig, Joao Felix of Atletico Madrid, and Rafael Leao of AC Milan.
Pepe, a 39-year-old veteran, and Antonio Silva, a 19-year-old youngster, both contribute to the defense.
Renato Sanches of Paris Saint-Germain is left out.
Portugal is playing Ghana on November 24 and is in Group H. South Korea and Uruguay are two more opponents.
