Manchester United Finish Yet Another season Trophyless, As Villareal Outsmart Them In Penalties

Manchester United finished their 5th season without a silverware, as they saw their only chance of winning a trophy this season slip away with Villareal. The Red Devils failed to convert one penalty in the lengthy shootout with the Yellow Submarines, which saw them win 11-10 on penalties.

Villareal tool the lead in the 29th minute, when Gerald Moreno converted Parejo's cross to gift the Spanish a well deserved lead. It wasn't untill the second half, when Manchester United were able to find the equalizer after Edison Cavani nested the equalizer from close range after Greenwood saw him unmarked and passed the ball to him.

The match become hard for both teams to find the winner, as Unai Emery men fought to keep the draw alive and they managed to keep off the frequent attackers from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side. The match eventually came to an end with the results level at 1-1.

The match went into extra time and both teams didn't mange to find a winner which lead the match to be decided by spot kicks. Villareal were able to convert all of their 11 penalties before Manchester United's De Gea missed to convert United's 11th penalty and handed over the trophy to Villareal.
