The Blues have had a strong start to the season, but their unbeaten streak was broken on Saturday by Manchester City. Only Romelu Lukaku has enjoyed a good start to his second term at the club, despite the fact that they made two acquisitions over the summer.
Our main focus in this post is on those players who were key for the Blues last season but have struggled so far this season. Although not all of Chelsea's players have been performing at their best, there have been several who have been particularly poor. We'll look at two of them in this article.
After losing to City in the Premier League on Saturday, Chelsea must regroup and move on without concentrating too much on the loss. However, certain players will need to step up and improve their performances as a result of this. Below, we'll look at two Chelsea players whose performances haven't been up to par so far and who must improve if the Blues are to compete in all competitions this season.
1. Ngolo Kante
Thomas Tuchel was mentioned in an interview discussing the traits that Ngolo Kante possesses before of their match against Manchester City. Many of those qualities, though, were absent from his performance in the team's loss to City. Despite the fact that the Frenchman has had to deal with some minor injuries recently, he has not been performing at the required level since his comeback, and as a result, he has been taken off in games on occasion.
Kante's brilliance on and off the ball is undeniable, therefore if Chelsea are to succeed in all competitions this season, the World Cup winner must deliver.
2. Mason Mount
What a sweetheart he is! Through a loan spell at Derby County, the English midfielder has made a smooth transition from Chelsea's youth to the main squad. Under Frank Lampard, he was crucial for the club, and Thomas Tuchel has found him beneficial as well. The teenager returned a little jaded after competing in Euro 2020 this summer, and this has most likely influenced his performances. Chelsea, without a doubt, requires him, and he, like Kante, must deliver for the Blues.
