Liverpool did not start with the all-red sports kit. The first ever sports kit that the Reds wore was a blue shirt and navy shorts. This was after it's formation in 1892. 4 years later it was changed to a red shirt with white piping, white socks and white shorts.
They started wearing the all-red sports kit in 1964. This is after their former manager Shankly decided the strip so that they can look more of a threat to the opposing teams. On 24th November 1964, the evening before facing off Anderlecht in a European Cup second leg is when the uniform was officially changed. After 3-0 Victory for the Reds, Yeats the team captain went home and said to his wife that they looked like giants and played like giants at Anfield during the tournament.
That made the history for the Reds and Shankly was made responsible for the image created by the modern liverpool. He enjoyed the success as the Reds Manager. Under his management, Liverpool won 3 league championships and a European Cup.
