Meet First East African Player And UDA's 2022 Election Aspirant Who Won UEFA Champions League Under Mourinho
Football is one of the biggest games with the most spectators and loved ones in the world. Kenyan retired footballer, McDonald Mariga Wanyama footballer who played as a defensive midfielder, made history as the first Kenyan and East African footballer to play in the UEFA Champions League, for Internazionale on 16 March 2010 under the famous manager Jose Mourihno.
In 2019 he joined politics to vie for Kibera parliamentary seat after the death of Ken Okoth. Mariga made a debut in Kenya's politics after announcing plans to contest for a parliamentary seat in a by-election in one of the constituencies (Kibra). He was nominated by the Jubilee Party as its flag bearer in the Kibra by-election. In 2022 he contested for the same seat on a UDA ticket under the Kenya kwanza team led by president-elect William Ruto.
Unlucky for ex-football star Macdonald Mariga in his quest to join active politics. The ex-Inter Milan midfielder was floored by his former high school teacher namely Peter Orero in an exciting race to become the next Kibra lawmaker in the August 2022 polls.
OOreo the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate, was declared the winner by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, (IEBC) garnering 33, 008 votes.
Mariga, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flagbearer, came home second with 20,049 votes.
