Ronaldo will be on the bench for Portugal in tonight’s game against Switzerland. He’s not in the starting XI decided by Fernando Santos.
OFFICIAL: Cristiano Ronaldo has been benched for Portugal's Round of 16 clash with Switzerland.
It's like Fernando Santos has taken into account thoughts of Dutch legend Ronald de Boer who said that the veteran star should be benched that's if Santos wants to be smart.
He said: 'It's not only Ronaldo, it's everything that comes with him. Everybody has an opinion. The weight you get on your shoulders when you leave him out... you have to respond to that. Everybody will only talk about Cristiano Ronaldo and nothing else. He said.
"It's not about the game you're going to play against Switzerland, basically, it's about why did you put him on the bench or why did you start with him. You never do it right probably. If I were the manager I would put him on the bench."
