FKF committee announced new season commencement date

The 2022/2023 FKF leagues campaign will commence by the end of August, the 13-member committee put together by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branches during a Special General Meeting on June 11, has announced.

Nation Sports reports that the committee, in a meeting last week, set August 27 as the date for the new season kick-off, with the Women Premier League, National Super League, and FKF Division One League set to begin a week later.

However, the committee's Chairman and FKF Murang’a branch Chairman Robert Macharia noted that the dates set are tentative as they will have to wait for the National Super League (NSL) as well as the promotion playoffs to end so as to confirm the exact kick-off date, without deliberating on what else was discussed in the meeting.

"Yes set a tentative date that the leagues should be starting by the end of August, but we will have to wait for the NSL to end. I cannot speak on what else was deliberated during the meeting," he told Mozzart Sport.

Fixtures for the new season are set to be released in mid July and the top league will be run by an independent body according to the Secretary of the committee, Amos Otieno of FKF Nairobi East branch, as quoted on Nation.

“It is all systems go and we have put in place a team which is working on the new fixtures which will be released mid next month. FKF is an independent body and we are sure of nailing a sponsor before the new season kicks off. The talks are going on and are at an advanced stage. As a committee we are also working to see to it that Kenya’s suspension is lifted. We are now the decision making organ of the federation and I believe Fifa will act so that Kenya can be back to international football,”Otieno said.

The FKF Transition Committee's tenure is set to stretch all the way to mid-August and only one week separates the lapse of the tenure from the tentative date set.
