Opinion: Big Transfer Mistake Unravels, Chalobah’s Loan Move, and Koulibaly’s Bargain

Chelsea fans are now regretting ever letting go of Marc Guehi to join Crystal Palace. The center back has been by far among the best defenders in the league for the past two season, despite being bought for a mere €18 Million by Patrick Vieira a couple of summers ago. Chelsea’s current defensive line up has World class players but no structure.

“I think Chelsea made a big mistake by selling Tomori and Guehi. Particularly the latter because he has been a colossus for Crystal Palace this season. He has been everything that many other clubs are looking for In a defender. I wish we could have that kind of player in our squad at the moment,” commented one fan on Sky Sports.

The Academy product that Chelsea decided to stay with, Trevoh Chalobah, has not lived up to full expectations. Last season he was great under Thomas Tuchel, but with Graham Potter he is a bit timid in his defensive role. Because of that, inside sources have revealed that the club is planning on sending out the center back on loan next season so that he can rediscover his old form once more.

My opinion

Koulibaly is not having the debut season he expected at Chelsea. The Senegalese center back has struggled a lot to stamp his place in the starting eleven this season, particularly after the signing of French center back Benoit Badiashile. His big money move from Napoli was meant to further cement the defensive line but so far that has not been the case.

The injury on Thiago Silva is going to have serious ramifications in the coming weeks. Chelsea have been lackluster in recent fixtures, particularly the offensive unit which has only scored once in the last six matches of the Premier League. That is a statistic that Graham Potter will struggle very much to come to terms with, leave alone tackle it.
