Opinion: Possible Reasons Football Players Cover Their Mouth When Talking To Coaches And Referees

I have been watching Kenya Premiere League, Africa Cup Of Nations, English Premier League, World Cup for a long time and have seen players, coaches covering their mouth whenever they talk to each other. At first I thought they did this to avoid producing odour from their mouth but I wrong when I discovered that they did this for a reason. I have seen this act especially in EPL where players talking to a coach or a referee covering their mouth.

Here are some reasons why players and coaches cover their mouths when talking to each other.

1.Players cover their mouth to avoid cameras in the stadium reading their lips when talking to a referee or a coach. This means their opponents not not read their lips and get what they might be discussing and avoid their words from being known from the footage's lip reading cameras.

2.For players and coaches, they cover their mouth in order to prevent any unwanted media attention and avoid exposing team tactics given to their opponents.

3.Another reason is that this is an easy way for players to get a listening ear from the referee as they keep their perspective on the action hidden.
