Have a look at the two major reasons why Messi won the Ballon d'Or ahead of Lewandowski

° Messi carried Barcelona on his back all alone and ensured a top-four finish for Barca, in the Spanish La Liga and won them the Spanish Copa del Rey last season, without the likes of; Xavi, Iniesta and Coutinho.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich have many playmakers like; Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller amongst others who can do all the tasks in the absence of Lewandowski.

° The second crucial reason is that, Messi single-handedly led Argentina to their first major title, in 28 years. The 34-year-old scored the most goals and provided the most assists for Argentina in the 2021 Copa America.

The following are the rest top ten winners for the Ballon d'Or Award, with their respective points;

3. Jorginho (Chelsea) 460 points

4. Benzema (R. Madrid) 239 points

5. Kante (Chelsea) 186 points

6. Ronaldo (Man United) 178 points

7. M. Salah (Liverpool) 121 points

8. De Bruyne (Man City) 73 points
