Many may have not known Kenyan runner Viola Lagat through her Athletics career but she is a very articulate lady who never shys to speak her mind.

Viola is now heading to New York City Marathon for her big assignment. She will be competing in the World Major marathon race that will be taking place next weekend on 7th November 2021.The scheduled event will be her debut marathon race. She recently came to limelight after lecturing President Uhuru Kenyatta and other leaders over their relactance in addressing Gender-Based Violence in the country during the burial of the slain Kenyan athlete Agnes Tirop in Nandi County on 23rd October 2021.She castigated elected leaders for doing nothing to protect the rights of women who have been left at the mercy of predators and violent individuals.

Agnes was found dead at her house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, with stab wounds on her neck. Her husband Ibrahim Kemboi has since been arrested with police treating him as a murder suspect.

Mourners at the funeral were startled for a moment when Viola took to the podium to give her condolence message on behalf of Diaspora athletes.

Viola Lagat is a sibling sister to legendary middle distance runner and Olympic medallist in 1500m Bernard Lagat. She therefore grew up watching her older siblings make history on the track and the roads.
