Man Utd: Varane’s Consecutive Triumph, Why Ten Hag Should be Proud of Recent Success

Manchester United’s Raphael Varane has been a keystone in France’s World Cup success this year. The 29 year old, alongside Liverpool’s Dayot Upamecano, has been a brick wall and a commandeer in the backline for Didier Deschamps side. This comes much to the excitement of Erik Ten Hag who was worried that the highly rated defender would sustain an injury that would rule him out for the entire season.

“Varane has been a crucial figure in our set up. His presence in the backline has been more than reassuring and that is why we have rarely subbed him off in a game. Having such a reliable player in the squad is more than anything a manager would want in a player,” commented Didier Deschamps in a recent press conference.

Raphael Varane’s fitness has always been an issue ever since he signed with Manchester United. That is the perk that associates with signing an old player but it seems that the Frenchman is beating the odds and registering consistent top performances while playing on a weekly basis. Hopefully he can emulate that when he gets back to Manchester United after his final game on Sunday against Argentina.

My opinion

Varane’s brilliant run of games has undoubtedly raised his self confidence. His return to the starting eleven in January is highly anticipated since his involvement will be highly depended upon to get maximum points. If France manage to snatch it from Argentina, there is no doubt that Varane will return to the squad bubbling with a new surge of energy and motivation.

Varane’s win record for Manchester United cannot be overlooked for this season and even the last which many say was his worst season. The Frenchman is a valuable asset for the club but the general belief is that he has not yet peaked at Old Trafford. It is widely believed that if France manage to clinch the World Cup in Qatar, Varane will accordingly embrace his strengths and cement Manchester United’s backline.
