All The 47 Counties Should Be Under Total Lockdown As Covid-19 Cases Surges(Opinion)

Coronavirus disease started from China in Wuhan City in late 2019. The deadly disease spread to almost all the countries of the world in a short span of time. As of now the data from Johns Hopkins University shows that more than 133 million people have contracted covid-19 with around 2.9 million deaths worldwide.

Kenya reported its first case of covid-19 last year in mid March. The disease spread to all the 47 counties in a short period. According to the daily data reported by the Ministry of Health headed by Mutahi Kagwe more 135,000 people have been confirmed infected with coronavirus with more than 2,200 fatalities since then.

What is more worrying in Kenya is that the third wave of covid-19 appears to be spreading more faster. In the recent weeks, thousands of infections and tens of deaths have been recorded. This rapid increase led to President Uhuru Kenyatta imposing lockdown restrictions in five counties of Machakos, Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu and Kajiado.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health confirmed that more than 1,500 people tested positive with 18 deaths in just a single day. In county distribution more than 35 counties reported cases with Nairobi leading. What does this mean? Still the disease is spreading in all the 47 counties. In my view, the government should lock down the country now to save lives.
