The English striker underwent emergency surgery before being placed in an induced coma and is now in a stable but critical condition in the intensive care unit.
On September 19, Hodgson was 26 years old, and Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo was kind enough to send him a personal video tribute to commemorate the event.
“Hello Danny, I recently learned about your background, and I hope you recover quickly,” Ronaldo stated.
“I welcome you to one of [our] Manchester games, so please get well soon, my friend.” “Be careful.”
Dean Henderson, Ronaldo's teammate, and England goalkeeper has also contacted Hodgson, whom he played with at Carlisle United earlier in his career.
“Stick tough, stay in there, and I promise you'll get through this,” he urged. “I understand how difficult you are, and I'm confident you'll be alright.
“I can't wait to take you to a [Manchester United] game and introduce you to the players. I've told them all about you, and we're all rooting for you... we just want to wish you the best.”
Manchester City, along with several other UK-based clubs, have sent messages of support to Hodgson, and ECU Joondalup has organized a fundraising match against A-League side Perth Glory, which is set to take place at Dorrien Gardens on Tuesday.
On Danny's birthday, his parents, Nicola and Peter Hodgson released a heartbreaking joint statement.
"Danny Hodgson, our lovely kid, is 26 today. While we are unable to see him in ICU on his birthday, we continue to send him unconditional love from our quarantine room at the Pan Pacific Hotel "The statement is as follows:
"While we are extremely proud of Danny's numerous football accomplishments, we are even more pleased of his off-field accomplishments. He is a nice young man who is hardworking, kind-hearted, and amusing.
"Danny is a fantastic son, Joe and Abby's great sibling, and a devoted and valued friend. He is a loving boyfriend to his beautiful and kind Jess, whom we also adore."
