A celebrated Olympic Gold medalist and Kenyan representative in athletics for the country died earlier in the hospital after falling ill. The incident which happened days after he walked to hospital for a routine checkup turned tragic when he passed on after being admitted the same day.
According to The Standard digital news platform, the junior world youth champion Gilbert Soet Kwemoi died in Mt. Elgon Hospital after falling ill days after he was diagnosed with an unknown illness. Kwemoi who is aged 23 years won gold in Nanjing Stadium in China in the 1500 meters race clocking an impressive 3 minutes.
The decorated athlete also won silver in the African championships in Ethiopia beating a tough team fro the host nation. His coach said that the deceased had gone to hospital after a taking the weekend off from training under the National Police Service where he was also employed before news filtered in of his demise. The family is yet to announce the burial date.
