La Liga

Today's football tips

The Catalans missed a golden opportunity the last match-day, as they lost against Granada. Had they won, they would have climbed to the top of the table, and would have had the edge to lift the title at the end of the season.

However, they are now placed third in the table, level on points with the second-placed Real Madrid, and trailing two points below toppers Atleti.

If Ronald Koeman’s men still harbor hopes of winning the La Liga, they absolutely will have to win the remaining fixtures, and at the same time will have to hope that the Madrid teams drop points as well.

As things stand, the Catalans have scored the most number of goals of all the teams in the competition (17 more than the next best record), and barring losses once in a while, they have been one of the best teams in Europe in 2021.

Meanwhile, the Bats are on a long winless run, and they are also conceding goals in huge numbers. Note that they also have a worrying h2h record against this foe over the years.

By the looks of things, expect the desperate Barcelona to post the three points on the board this weekend.

Valencia vs Barcelona: Head-to-head (h2h)

The reverse encounter had ended in a 2-2 draw.

Koeman’s men had recorded 18 of the former 22 overall victories.

They had scored two or more goals in five of the preceding eight meetings.

Since 2008, the hosts have won just once at this venue.

Nine of the last twelve clashes at this stadium had goals from both teams.

Valencia vs Barcelona Prediction

Javi Gracia’s men were held to a 1-1 draw the last match-day, against Alaves. In the meantime, the Catalans lost 1-2 at home against Granada.

Going on, the Bats are on a five-fixture winless run, and they have won just four times in their last 16 games. Going on, they have also won just five times at home since September of 2020.

On the other hand, their counterparts were unbeaten in 12 of their previous 14 overall fixtures, and they had won 10 of their past 13 match-ups.

Note that they had also won 17 of their preceding 21 road trips, and on top of all that, they have a good h2h record against this opponent over the years.

By the looks of things, expect Barcelona to deliver a winning performance this Sunday at the Mestalla. Moreover, considering the offensive prowess of Barca, and their desperation, expect goals in plenty.

Predictions: home win, over 3.5 goals and goal goal.
