After Belgium and Germany exit here are the round of 16 qualifies, top scorers and fixtures

For the first time in the World Cup’s 92-year history, Germany have been knocked out in the first round at back-to-back tournaments.

Prior to 2018, Germany had NEVER failed to make it out of their World Cup group

Germany defeated Costa Rica 4-2 but their win didn't help them go through to the the round of 16 after Japan defeated Spain 2-1.

Here is how group E ended.

Japan - 6pts (+1GD)

Spain - 4pts (+6GD)

Germany - 4pts (+1GD)

Costa Rica - 3pts (-8GD)

Germany player Jamal Musiala completed 12 dribbles against Costa Rica, the most on record for a teenager in World Cup history (1966 onwards)

Jamal Musiala completed 12/18 dribbles v Costa Rica — that's the first time a player completed that many dribbles in a single #FIFAWorldCup match since Jay-Jay Okocha's 15 completed dribbles v Italy in 1994.

Earlier FIFA 2nd ranked Belgium were also knocked out of the tournament after their draw with Croatia.
