The deceased champion mainly competed in 5000 metres and cross country races. In 2015 during the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Cross Country Championships she won a gold medal becoming the second-youngest ever gold medallist in the women's race after Zola Budd.
Tirop who broke women's 10km race World Record last month has been found dead in her house in Iten, Elgeyo Market County with stab wounds in her abdomen.
The 25-year-old medalist was just ten days away from celebrating her 26th birthday. The news of her death is a huge blow to the Athletics family and Kenyans at large.
It is so heartbreaking when a young person like Agnes is killed in cold blood when she has her whole future ahead of her. The culprit responsible for her death is still unknown.
We wish her family to find peace during this hard time and for the person responsible for her death to be brought to justice. Thank you for reading.
