The match eventually ended with Leicester beating their opponents 2–0 and the club went top of the league table.

Aubameyang is renowned for his pace, finishing, and off-ball movement. Aubameyang scored two goals for Arsenal in their 3–0 victory over Newcastle United on 18 January 2021. However, he did not play in the club's next three matches, in order to tend to his ill mother. On 14 February, Aubameyang scored his first Premier League hat-trick in a 4–2 win over Leeds United.

Sadio Mané was born 10 April 1992, he is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a winger for Premier League club Liverpool and the Senegal national team. On 18 September 2021, Mané scored his 100th Liverpool goal in a 3–0 home win against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The goal against Crystal Palace also saw Mané set a new Premier League record by becoming the first player to score in nine consecutive league games against the same opponent.

Salah opened the 2021–22 season with a goal and two assists in a 3–0 win at Norwich. In scoring Salah became the first player to score in the opening game of five consecutive Premier League seasons. On 12 September, Salah scored his 100th Premier League goal in the 3–0 win away to Leeds United.
