Reason why Drogba, Eto'o and Lupita will Visit Kisumu this week

8000 people are expected to visit Kisumu and grace the Africities Summit in the coming week, including former football stars Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba, as well as star actress Lupita Nyong'o.

Eto'o, a famed footballer who played for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Inter Milan in Europe, will visit Kenya for the second time in less than a month

In April, the former striker and current president of the Cameroon Football Association went on vacation with his family in Malindi, Kenya's coast.

Drogba is another retired footballer who played for Olympic Marseille, Chelsea, Galatasaray, and the Ivory Coast national team during his career.

He is remembered for helping Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League and is regarded as one of Africa's best attackers.

Lupita Nyong'o, who was designated one of Africa's "50 Most Powerful Women," is a talented actress and novelist whose book became the best-selling book in New York.

The actress, whose father is Kisumu governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o, is the first Kenyan to win an Oscar for her part in Black Panther.

In 2014, she achieved the accomplishment with her supporting part in the film 12 Years a Slave.

The 9th Africities Summit will take place in Nairobi, Kenya's third-largest city on Lake Victoria, from May 17 to 21.

The summit's topic is The Role of African Intermediary Cities in the Implementation of the United Nations' Agenda 2030 and the African Union's Agenda 2063.

Africities is a Pan African conference organized by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG-A) that brings together the leaders of cities and subnational governments, as well as their associations, to promote decentralization and local governance in order to improve citizens' living standards.

Since 1998, when the inaugural gathering was held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Africities Summits have been conducted every three years. Johannesburg, South Africa, Dakar, Senegal, and Marrakech, Morocco will also host the summit (twice).
