It seems a little amusing that the general consensus among observers is that Chelsea should repeat their pursuit of a "traditional number nine" from last summer in order to address their present attacking weaknesses.
The profile of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unquestionably different from that of Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, or even the latter, who was mentioned earlier in the summer. But it will raise concerns for Thomas Tuchel once more on how he can make sure a prolific goal scorer continues to perform within his system.
According to football.london, Chelsea is confident that Barcelona will accept their £22 million offer for Aubameyang and bring him back to west London to work with Tuchel. However, personal terms have not yet been worked out.
As he did with Kalidou Koulibaly last month, Todd Boehly would once more be handing out a big contract to a player in the later stages of their career.
However, Tuchel will be hoping that his prior positive relationship with the Gabonese international and his resume of 68 goals in 128 games for rivals Arsenal across London would be able to put the finishing touches on a method that lacked finesse.
