Arsenal Could Land Their Number One Target From Barcelona At Cut Price After Latest Development

The January departure of attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil to Turkish giants Fernabeche means Arsenal are still short in the central attacking midfield.

Before the emergence of Emile Smith Rowe and the loan signing of Martin Odegaard, the gunners were actively in the market for a playmaker and Philippe Coutinho was linked with a move.

The Brazilian architect extended his stay with Barcelona but he has found playing time under Ronald Koeman hard to come by and sources now claim new president Joan Laporta is considering offloading him.

It is claimed that Coutinho has a clause that see Barca pay Liverpool an extra £20m should he make 100 appearances for the club and this explains his recent lack of game time.

Barcelona are now keen to sell the player who has to date made 90 appearances for them to avoid paying the extra fee in the deal as their finances are currently stretched because of the pandemic.

Should Odegaard return to the Santiago Bernabeu, Coutinho is a viable candidate that could fill the number ten void and mentor the promising Emile Smith Rowe.
