Bungoma County Government under the Governor Wycliffe Wangamati is building an ultra-modern stadium at Kanduyi, at a whooping cost of Sh700 million. The Stadium which is also referred as Masinde Muliro Stadium is set to be the biggest sporting ground facility in the whole of western region. According to details from the Governor's office, the stadium will contain the international standard features hence making it capable of hosting international sports activities.
The whole project is set to have a capacity of 20,000 people with all the required features of a modern stadium. Speaking during the project commissioning, Governor Wangamati said that the stadium will be equipped with 21 offices which are; VIP lounge rooms, conference room, presidential room, changing and shower rooms for players, coaches and officials room, First aid and medical center, football and other games pitches, staff offices and parking lot.
The project construction progress is currently more than 45% done and it is reportedly scheduled to be completed towards the end of 2021. It is set to eclipse both Mumias Complex and Bukhungu stadiums which are are not having such similar features. Mumias Complex is only capable of holding 10,000 people while Bukhungu holds only 15,000 people, and they do not meet the 'FIFA'required standards.
