Rangers boss Steven Gerrard to return to the Premier League.

There has been no direct meeting with Rangers to meet with Steven Gerrard, who was fired by Villa after five straight Premier League defeats. Villa want a new head coach in place for the team's match against Brighton on November 20. After letting Smith go on Sunday, Villa is looking for a new manager and is examining other options. The team anticipates ramping up their search for a new manager within the next 24-48 hours.

Rangers, on the other hand, claim that they have not been contacted by anyone authorized to talk with Gerrard on their behalf. Steven Gerrard and Roberto Martinez were both named as prospective replacements for Steve Smith earlier this week by Sky Sports News. Kasper Hjulmand has subsequently declared himself out of the running. Christian Purslow, the CEO of Villa Park, counts Steven Gerrard as a close friend from their time working together at Liverpool as the club's managing director. Marcantonio Martinez has been in charge of Belgium since 2016, during which time he has led them to the top of FIFA's world rankings.
