Will This Defender Finally Join Liverpool's Van Dijk-led Backline From Next Season?

Following the recent frailties in the defence of defending champions after Van Dijk suffered an injury that has kept him on the sidelines for most of the season, Liverpool that has seen them drop to outside the top four, central defenders are being linked with Liverpool every passing day with Konate and Koulibaly in the limelight lately.

In the past week, La Gazzetta Dello Sport revealed that Napoli is willing to sell their prized asset in the coming transfer window, with a price tag of £42.5m slapped on Koulibaly. The Italian news source also claimed that Liverpool was ready to dig deep in their pockets to secure the signature of the Senegal international.

The 29-year old has for long been linked with a move away from Napoli with Napoli so keen to hold on to him setting an unprecedented price for those who wanted to secure his services. Given the pandemic, Napoli may have been pushed into the corner, lowering the price of the defender to what many will term a bargain.

Will signing this world-class defender help sort the defensive problems to a Liverpool side looking to finish outside the top four in the season preceding the one they were crowned Premier League champions? Or better still, will his signing be able to convince the likes of Salah and Mane to stick with the Merseyside club even when they fail to qualify for the Champions League?
