Former Man United player Paul Merson has honestly revealed that Chelsea lack of a prolific striker costed them three points during their London derby game against Tottenham Hotspurs last week. The 54 years old believes that Chelsea's lack of a striker who can help them in bagging many goals like Christiano Ronaldo costed them a win against Antonio Conte's men on Sunday.
Chelsea have been struggling with scoring many goals upfront since the departure of their legend Didier Drogba and Diego Costa. Tuchel opted for Romelu Lukaku last season but things did not go as expected as the Belgium international struggled to replicate his old form at the West London club. Chelsea's woes seems to continue this season as they are yet to sign a better goalscorer who will help them in converting many chances they create.
English pundit Paul Merson believes that Chelsea have been playing an outstanding football lately since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at the club but the club have been lacking a prolific goal scorer. Merson has advised Tuchel and the board to get Christiano Ronaldo as their striker next since the five times ballon d'ior winner have proven enough that he is a great goal scorer.
"Chelsea were outstanding against Tottenham on Sunday, they dominated the match from start to finish, but they haven't got a goalscorer or CF and that cost them three points. I can't believe they didn't or haven't gone in for Cristiano Ronaldo."
Thomas Tuchel has been using Kai Harvertz as his striker since last season and the German international has not been consistent enough to help Chelsea in converting chances created during the game. Merson believes that if Chelsea had a striker during their last game they would have won.
