Long serving Shujaa Sevens captain Andrew Amonde was replaced from the travelling squad to Madrid in Spain. Amonde was replaced by Bush Mwale for the Inter Region Sevens Tournament.

According to Michezo Africa, Captain Amonde was replaced because he developed stomach complications hours before travelling.

The two weeks tournament which will have two different winners will be hosted in Madrid starting this weekend and next weekend.

The tournament will act as a boost to the national team's preparations for the Olympic games in Tokyo. Head coach Innocent Simiyu while speaking to Michezo Africa acknowledged the importance of the tournament to Shujaa's Olympics preparations.

"USA and Argentina have already qualified for the Olympics and have been in preparations while Spain was in 2016 Rio Olympics. France has been a longtime rival and Portugal is an experienced side so Spain will serve the purpose of preparing Shujaa for Olympics," Innocent Simiyu told Michezo Africa.

This weekend's tournament will see Shujaa meet France, Portugal and USA on Saturday and play hosts Spain and Argentina in their last pool match.

Since the first case of Covid-19 was reported in Kenya in March 2020, Shujaa have not participated in any major tournament. Most of the tournaments were cancelled and air travels were banned.
