Potential new Chelsea signing Jules Kounde is one of the best centre backs in La Liga. Though his 80million transfer fee might be deemed to be a little bit too much, Kounde certainly has the talent to succeed at the biggest clubs.
However, anyone who closely follows the Premiere League knows that talent alone does not mean you will be successful, especially when joining from another League.
In La Liga, Kounde was used to playing technical football, hence, the centre back might not have been needed to use his height to defend long balls on multiple occasions. Kounde's height is 1.78metres.
For a wider context, Man United centre back Victor Lindelof who is always dominated in the air by opponents has a height of 1.87metres.
One could argue that Chelsea play with three centre backs and two wing backs who will be equipped to deal with aerial threats.
However, against small teams like Burnley, Chelsea will be forced to play a back four in order to break the teams down. If Kounde is part of the back four, then bulky strikers will relish playing against him.
Being tall and strong is the first quality all Premiere League defenders who dominate opponents need to have.
Manchester City might have known that when they opted to acquire Reuben Dias, instead of Kounde when both were available at the same price. This was despite the fact that Dias played in the weaker Portuguese league and lacked Champions League experience.
