The refurbishment work at Nairobi City Stadium has gained momentum five months of its launch. The project was officially started in October 2020 immediately after the completion of Nyayo National Stadium. The facility which is one of the largest sports ground within the Nairobi City County, is scheduled to be ready before the end of 2022.
According to the Sports , Culture and Heritage ministry report by the Standard, the stadium is set to be built to international standards, where it will meet all the 'FIFA' level requirements. The facility will be capable of hosting up to 30,000 people in a single occasion. This will make the Kenya's capital city to have three ultra-modern stadium after Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium.
The stadium was had been stalled for quite a long time since 2018 when it was first tabled for renovations. There was no works going on at the site since that time until October 2020 when the national government embarked on the project construction again. This is now giving hopes to the Kenyan Premier League clubs as well as the national teams for more sports grounds. Gor Mahia FC is known to be using the facility as their home ground and this is definitely a good news to them.
