"It Was My Last Game" Belgium Coach Steps Down

Roberto Martinez leaves Belgium after 2022 world cup knock out. The game vs Croatia was his last one as head coach of the national team. His decision was already made before the tournament and it’s now officially confirmed.

Speaking after the match, Martinez confirmed the decision he made even before the world cup. He has stepped down as Belgium head coach.

" Yes, it was my last game with the Red Devils! Whatever happened, it was going to be the end. Elimination in the group stage does not change anything. I made the decision just before the start of the World Cup. I wanted a long-term project with your national team (note: it had been in place since 2016). I wanted to be loyal to Belgium and finish the job. I refused several offers during this period. I am not resigning. I am very happy to have advanced with this group full of qualities” , he listed with emotion.
