Why Casemiro Is Not The Answer To Man United's Midfield Problems

With just under two weeks to the closure of the English Premier League transfer window, Manchester United is in a race against time to sign new players for the new season. Multiple names have been linked to United so far, with the latest being Real Madrid's Brazilian Midfielder Casemiro. As Manchester United look to bolster their midfield options, here is a look at why Casemiro is not a good option for the team.

1. The Player's Age

Casemiro's talents and abilities are undoubtedly good but of major concern is the player's age. He is currently 30 years old. As such, his quality is only bound to decline with time especially with the physical nature of the Premier League. His age also means he is not going to help in the development of the future squad and could possibly be out after three to four years.

2. Wage Demands

Owing to the success and reputation he has garnered over the years, Casemiro is likely to demand huge sums of money as compensation for his services. This means that Manchester United could be forced to work with a slim squad in order to accomodate Casemiro, unlike if they are to sign two young and promising midfielders who will collectively be paid Casemiro's wages.

3. Casemiro's Playing Style

United's new boss Erik ten Hag has made a name for himself by demanding attractive attacking football from his players. His style of play is based on possession. That said, Casemiro is not known for his ball-keeping abilities. His flaws have over the years been covered by his midfield compatriots Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, who are excellent ball-keepers. At united, such players are not available to cover Casemiro's flaws. This could translate to the team losing the ball multiple times and therefore disrupting their gameplan.
